| Ragtime Adult Auditions

Union Avenue Opera is seeking several local adult artists to round out its cast of Ragtime.

  • Booker T. Washington: African American, bass (will also sing with Harlem Ensemble)
  • JP Morgan: Caucasian, tenor (will also sing with New Rochelle Ensemble)
  • Judge/Fireman/Newsboy 1 & 3 (speaking): Caucasian, bass (will also sing with New Rochelle Ensemble)
  • Umpire (speaking): African American, bass (will also sing with Harlem Ensemble)
  • Policeman (speaking): Caucasian, bass (will also sing with New Rochelle Ensemble)
  • Black Attorney (speaking): African American, bass (will also sign with Harlem and Immigrant Ensembles)

**All positions are compensated.**

Audition Requirements: All auditioning artist should bring a current photo (need not be a headshot, but artist should be the only one pictured).

All other roles should present one selection of their choosing in its entirety. Song can be in any genre and style but must be memorized and accompanied by UAO’s accompanist (no a cappella pieces or audio tracks).

All Artists should prepare two additional 16 to 36 bar selections in contrasting styles. Artist is responsible for bringing one copy of the music for the accompanist. Artist may be asked to cold read at the audition.

All artists must be registered with UAO prior to the audition date.

REAHEARSAL AND PRODUCTION INFORMATION:

All performances and rehearsals will take place at Union Avenue Opera.

All dates should be considered mandatory.

Music Rehearsals: June 15, 16, 21, 22 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm

Final sing-through: July 30 from 7:00pm – 10:00pm

Staging Rehearsals: July 31 to August 12 evening and weekend calls.
Ensemble artist must be available in the evenings Monday through Sunday and during the day on Saturday and Sundays. Booker T. Washington may have additional daytime calls depending on artist’s availability. A full rehearsal schedule will be published no later than two weeks before the start of the rehearsal period. All artists will be expected to learn their role before the start of staging rehearsals and need to be memorized/off-book at that time.

Orchestra Rehearsal: August 13 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Dress Rehearsals: August 14, 15, 16
(runs start at 8:00pm, call time TBA).

Performances: August 18, 19, 25, 26
