Seasonal Production Manager
Union Avenue Opera is seeking a qualified Season Production Manager for the 2025 Festival Season.
LOCATION: St. Louis, MO
JOB TYPE: Contract/Seasonal. Hybrid. Must be available to be onsite June 1 through September 15 (housing not provided)
SALARY: $7,500 – $10,000 based on experience.
CONTRACT DATE: Immediately through October 15, 2025
Must be willing to be flexible with hours and availability during the summer production schedule including nights and weekends. Feb – May and mid-Sept – October minimal hours for administrative duties. June – Sept 15 not to exceed 30 hr/week.
The production manager (PM) is ultimately responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the production are completed within budget, according to the designer’s and director’s vision, and in time for the start of tech rehearsal. PM oversees the cost effectiveness and planning of the entire production process working to reduce cost while maintaining the essence of the production and maintaining professional standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Creating and maintaining a production schedule for each show.
- Hiring and contracting all production personnel.
- Organizing and facilitating production meetings.
- Working closely with Directors, Designers, and other department heads to make decisions regarding set, costume, lighting, and other aspects of production and ensure these are within the budget of the production.
- Keeping stage and backstage areas organized and safe.
- Ensuring decisions made regarding the set of each production is carried out safely, and set is delivered and executed according to the production schedule.
- Prepare budgets and monitor accurate expenses and reporting.
PM is also required to be hands-on, spending time on-site checking in with crews, receiving/procuring material shipments, and solving immediate problems that would otherwise cause delays.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates should have experience in either production; technical backstage; stage management; and/or lighting in addition to:
- Budget preparation and control.
- Experience working with and managing freelance creative staff, production staff and stage managers.
- Knowledge of set construction and technical equipment.
- Knowledge of production related health and safety.
- Familiarity with stage management procedures and production crew operations.
Furthermore, the ideal candidate will be:
- Well organized and capable of meeting deadlines and adapting to changing priorities as well as attending to numerous projects concurrently.
- An excellent communicator (oral and written) displaying tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Proficient in computer/technology and assigned software (G-Suite, Zoom, MS Suite, Dropbox, etc).
- Licensed driver with reliable transportation.
