Master Electrician – Fiddler on the Roof
Union Avenue Opera is seeking a qualified Master Electrician for the 2026 Festival Season production of Fiddler on the Roof.
LOCATION: St. Louis, MO
JOB TYPE: Contract. Must be available to be onsite June 15 through July 11
SALARY: $800 stipend
The Master Electrician (ME) will support the Lighting Designer in bringing Fiddler on the Roof to life on the UAO stage. This role oversees the safe installation, focusing, and maintenance of lighting equipment, leads the hang and tech processes, and ensures all work meets safety and production standards. Responsibilities also include managing equipment logistics, maintaining accurate records, assisting with load-in and strike, and collaborating across departments to deliver a seamless and visually compelling performance experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Secure lighting equipment and a copy of all associated paperwork for the 2026 Festival Season by scheduled deadline.
- Responsible for assisting the Lighting Designer in the recording and adjustment of lighting cues. Responsible for ensuring the realization of the light plot by assisting in hanging and circuiting the lighting units according to the plot.
- Assist in installation and strike of trusses.
- Lead a team in hanging, circuiting, patching, focusing, & gelling of lighting
- Make sure all fixtures hang safely, every fixture must have a safety cable, all cables must be dressed and secure for the safety of our cast, crew, and patrons.
- Ensure safe working conditions and report any accidents or injuries immediately according to the Union Avenue Opera Safety Guidelines and Practices
- The balcony area must be cleared of equipment and cables secure for the safety of the patrons in the balcony before opening night.
- Maintain receipts for all transactions and accurate/detailed records. Turn in all receipts to the Production Manager, preferred the same day. All receipts must be turned in no later than the start of the last tech rehearsals on Wednesday of tech week.
- Read tech reports and make any pertinent changes based on them
- During strike, tear down, sort and pack equipment and other tasks as assigned by the TD/SM
- Pre season and post season equipment set-up and returning all equipment back to storage and/or returning rental equipment.
- Performs assistance to the carpenters or riggers for the load-in of all lighting grid equipment pre-season and post-season
One assistant electrician will be hired for each production in the festival season. Additional help will be hired as needed/requested.
This position is for the duration of Fiddler on the Roof.
Rehearsal Period: Jun15 to July 1, 2026
Performance Dates: July 3, 5m, 10, 11 – all performances at 8:00PM, Sunday matinee at 3:00PM. Call times TBA.
Housing is not available for this position.
